Position: There are three types of positions in hockey: forwards, defensemen, and goalies. Forwards are further defined by where they primarily make plays - along the left or right wings or up the center.
Draft Status: The NHL draft is the primary way players enter the league. A better (lower) draft number indicates a player with more NHL potential. Players can enter the draft if they will be between 18 and 21 by September 15th. The draft happens once a year and there's no guarantee a player will be selected by a team. However, players can also sign an NHL contract as a free agent without being drafted.
Points: A player's total points are the sum of their goals (G) and assists (A). A player earns a goal by shooting the puck into the net. A player earns an assist by directly setting up a goal - up to two players can assist on one goal.
SV%: Save percentage, a statistic for goalie success. Calculated as (shots against - goals against) / shots against. Higher is better!
Games Played: The number of games a player has played in the NHL for the 2025-26 regular season. A full season consists of 82 games, without counting playoff games. One goalies typically does not play every game due to exhaustion; the goalie who starts more often is considered the "primary" goalie while the other is the "backup". Many teams split their goalies more evenly, which is considered a "goalie tandem".
